Introduction
There are a number of high performance computing (HPC)
systems available for use at the University of Bath
. All of them are Beowulf
or cluster computers
, in which many commodity systems are linked together with high-speed interconnect and special software so that they can be used as one large supercomputer.
- The central HPC system, Aquila, passed its acceptance tests in early 2009 and is now available for general use.
In addition to this centrally hosted and managed system, there are still several Departmental Clusters, such as Pauling in the Department of Chemistry and the two clusters located within the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
If you haven't worked with HPC before, you might want to read InsideHPC.com's HPC 101
