Excellent software for managing references.

  • Stores data in BibteX format so it easily integrates with LateX.
  • There exists a suite of plugins designed to grab and link articles to your citations.

Journal abbreviations

Some journals require journal names to be abbreviated in reference lists, and some do not.  JabRef provides a way of managing both the abbreviated and full names of each journal non-destructively.

A list of full name/abbreviations can be downloaded here:

http://people.su.se/~alau4517/jabref.wos.txt

and good documentation on how to use it is here:

I keep my bibtex database file in Dropbox effectively turning JabRef into cloud storage so I can view my database from any computer I work at.
