In the Administration block, click on the Course Administration link and then the Edit settings link (as shown below).

Here you can control various course settings. These include the course name and summary. Additional (context sensitive) help is available by clicking on the blue question marks found on this page.

Many of the default settings can be left as they are, but there are a few basic ones which you may want to alter.

Key settings include amending course dates and names, adding a course description and specifying the course format. You will also be able to specify a course password and enable activity tracking.
