Welcome to the Modern Foreign Languages Subject Didactics (SD) Handbook

This Handbook provides a guide to the MFL Subject Didactics (SD) Programme in the PGCE in Partnership Course.  It should be read in conjunction with the PGCE Course Handbook and the Education and Professional Studies (EPS) section of this Handbook.  The Programme is planned and implemented jointly by university tutors and school-based mentors and covers your work in both university and school throughout the course.

A week-by-week schedule of the Programme is available for viewing, download or print via the left hand menu.  However, in addition to the sessions indicated, you will also, as a group, or as individuals be given the opportunity to participate in a range of activities organized by our partnership schools and other bodies over the year.  The purpose of these activities is twofold:

i) to give you the widest possible range of experiences to contribute to your professional development and understanding of different schools and aspects of language teaching and learning; and

ii) to build robust and mutually supportive links between the University and our Partnership Schools.

Examples of events in which some or all of you will be participating this year are:

  • European Day of Languages in your Homeschools
  • The Goethe Institut Day (for Germanists) at the University of West of England (date tbc)

Further details will be forthcoming during the course!
